Ed benning

Ed Benning serves as Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties’ Chairman. He has been in the public transportation sector for 35 years serving in numerous capacities. On June 1, 2011, he was named the General Manager / CEO of the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) - a $40 million public corporation serving the residents of Genesee County. In addition to his duties as GM of the MTA, early in 2016 Benning was named Interim Administrator to Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) and continues to oversee its operation today. Ed has received many awards on behalf of MTA and serves in leadership roles for numerous community organizations. Ed is an advocate for leadership, employing those affected by disabilities and building community partnerships.  He earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, Bachelors in Business Administration from Northwood University and Associates in Business Management from Detroit College.

Karen Church

Karen Church joined ELGA Credit Union in 1978 and has served in the role of CEO since 1992. She is a Michigan Credit Union League Board Member (since 2009), where she currently serves as treasurer. Karen’s community affiliations include Community Foundation Women and Girls Advisory Council, St. Luke’s N.E.W. Life Center, Zonta, Literacy Network and volunteer at ELGA Credit Union’s Memorial Day weekend “Tent Sale” fundraiser for Catholic Charities’ Center for Hope, Flint. Karen is a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Otisville, where she serves as chairperson of the finance committee.

Mark Brock

Mark Brock is self-employed as a Financial Adviser licensed in securities and insurance the past twenty-five years at Complete Financial Planning. His former work experience includes the Property Casualty business. Mark serves on the Flushing City Council and is a member of St. Robert Bellarmine, Flushing. Parish activities include St. Robert School Booster and former President of Parish Council at St. Vincent DePaul in Flint.

Jeff Sabolish

Jeffrey Sabolish is a Certified Public Accountant and Financial Planner for Lewis & Knopf, P.C., Flint. He received his BBA and MBA from the University of Michigan-Flint. Jeff’s board and community affiliations include the Swartz Creek Chamber of Commerce, IMA Recreation Association, Powers Catholic High School and St. Robert’s Boosters and Athletic’s Coach. Jeffrey is a member of St. Roberts Bellarmine, Flushing.



John Zintsmaster

John Zintsmaster is a Private Practice Attorney at Bueche, Failer, O’Callaghan & Zintsmaster and a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1983. He earned his B.A. at the University of Notre Dame and J.D. at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. John’s community affiliations include Powers High School Trust Board, Flushing City Council, Flushing Community Foundation Board, St. Robert/Fr. Jacob Educational Trust Board and City of Flushing Zoning Board of Appeals. He is a member of St. Robert Bellarmine in Flushing, where parish activities include service on Knights of Columbus and Men’s Clubs.

Renae Banks-Rowser

Renae Banks-Rowser retired from the Department of Human Services in 2002 after thirty-nine years serving in various roles as case worker, supervisor and upper management positions spanning five counties in Michigan. The majority of her programs were in Children’s Services in Genesee County. After retirement, Renae worked in grant funded programs and contractually for Grand Blanc Community Schools, providing group counseling for 3rd to 5th graders for eight years. She earned her BA in Human Services at Ferris State University and her MA at the University of Detroit. Her community affiliations include numerous social service agencies in Genesee County, including Christ the King (CTK) Advisory Board, Christian Service Ministry Chair, CTK Jo-Joe’s Family Home Advisory Board (social worker for the family), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority lifetime member, mentoring and after-school tutoring for 26 girls, Officer Ladies Auxillary of St. Peter Claver, active member of Family Promise Program, Court Street United Methodist Church and CTK Food Pantry. Renae is a member of Christ the King, Flint. Parish activities include Parish Council, Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Council of Christian Women Member, Ladies Auxillary of Peter Claver Member, and Facilitator for the Diocese of Lansing Protecting God’s Children Program, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School Teacher, and annual Festival Volunteer. 

Dcn. michael dear

Deacon Michael Dear is Assistant Coordinator of Spiritual Care at Hurley Medical Center, Flint. He earned his BA in Applied Science at the University of Michigan-Flint, B.A. in Theological Studies and M.A. in Family Life Ministry at the Dominican University in Chicago. Previous work experience includes Chaplain for Hospice, Pastoral Associate, Fundraiser, and Pastoral Coordinator for St. Michael Parish in Flint.

Fr. Thomas Firestone

Reverend Thomas Firestone grew up in the small farming community of Ida, Michigan. Ordained a Redemptorist priest in 1978, he received his M. RE. and M. Div. from New York State University and J.D. from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Father Firestone has worked for Bishops of the Heartland Association and was pastor of St. Mary's Student Parish serving the University of Michigan. The past twelve years, Father Firestone served as pastor at St. John Vianney Parish, Flint and currently is pastor of The Catholic Community of Flint.

Lakeisha Glover

Lakeisha Colover is Parish Assistant at St. John Vianney, Flint. She earned her AA in Psychology. Lakeisha’s work experience includes housing programs for the under-served, homelessness outreach for New Passages and Metro Housing’s Continuum of Care Collaborative, in Flint. Lakeisha is a Deliverance Supportive Housing Advocate for disabled persons through Genesee Health Systems, Flint. She is a member of Ebeneezer Ministries in Burton.

Ethel Hooker

Ethel Hooker retired from AT&T, where she worked as a clerk and switching technician over equipment for 25 years. Prior, she worked for the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office. Ethel’s accomplishments include the LIMEX Pastoral Studies Master Program and Ameritech Technology School. She is a commissioned Lay Ecclesial minister and served as pastoral manager at Sacred Heart Church, Flint, for seven years. She is a member of SS Charles and Helena Church, in Clio and St. John Vianney Church, Flint. Ethel’s church and community affiliations include St. Francis Prayer Center and Hospice Volunteer, St. Luke’s Women’s Center, AARP Tax- Aide Program Volunteer, the Hospital Communion Team, Archivist, Worship Commission and Eucharistic Minister.

Sue Kelly

Sue Kelly is semi-retired teacher of Flint Community Schools. She earned her B.A. in French-Spanish from North Park University, M.A. in Secondary Curriculum from Eastern Michigan University and Pastoral Theology from Loyola University New Orleans. She also has certification in Spiritual Direction from Colombiere Center Detroit Jesuit Province. Previous work experience includes pastoral associate at St. Michael Church, Flint and Holy Redeemer Church, Burton, commissioned minister Diocese of Lansing, minister of adult education Christ the King, Flint, diocesan pastoral council member, diocesan ministry certification board, Individual Spiritual Direction Retreat presenter, Professional Pastoral Ministries Association, Lay Ecclesiastical Minister, adjunct professor Siena Heights University and Voices presenter and board member. Sue is a member of Rotary International and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She attends Christ the King Church, Flint and serves in adult education, RCIA, CCW, choir, and is a Bible Study leader.

Tim Lamb

Timothy Lamb is Associate Director of Admissions at Northwood University, where he earned his BBA and MBA in Marketing Management. Tim’s marketing and sales experience spanning twenty-four years includes School Specialty Corporation, Philip Morris USA, and Heltzer Hauere Sales. Board affiliations include the International Affairs Committee, Shop Food Theatre and Resource Genesee. Tim is a Flint Rotarian, serves the College Town Collaborative, is a member of Flint Strong and the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce. He currently attends St. Robert’s Bellarmine and previously attended St. Pius X Church, Flint for ten years.

Fr. Robert McGraw

Reverend McGraw was born and raised in Flushing, Michigan. He attended Sacred Heart Seminary College in 1972, where he earned his BA, majoring in History with a minor in Philosophy. In 1976, he earned his Masters of Divinity Degree and was ordained a priest for the Diocese in Lansing by Bishop Kenneth J. Povish. Service also includes Director of Vocations and Priestly Formation before becoming the Chair of the Department of Pastoral Formation and Director of Seminarians. His community involvement has included Presbyterial Council, Priests Pension Board and Assignment Committee, Diocesan Committee on Restructuring Parishes, and was involved with the Ecumenical Ministerial Associations while stationed in Brighton and Grand Ledge. He has served on the Catholic Charities Boards of Jackson and Lansing and now the Genesee/Shiawassee Board.

Robert Sibilsky

Robert T. Sibilsky is retired as President of Compak/Webcor/CW South, Flint. His community affiliations have included Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties (Capital Campaign Chair ), Flint & Genesee County Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors), United Way of Genesee County Campaign (Fundraiser), Community Resolution Center(Board of Directors), Genesee County Substance Abuse Commission (Board of Directors and Board Chair), Flint Golf Club (Board of Directors) and Citizens Bank (Community Board of Directors). 

George Wilson

George Wilson is a multi-line insurance agent, who operates independently-representing 100 different insurance carriers. Licensed by the State of Michigan, he graduated from Michigan State’s Life Long Insurance Program. Prior to his insurance career, Mr. Wilson was an independent lobbyist at City, County, State and Federal levels, with expertise in underground and tunnel construction. Mr. Wilson also served in Federal Job training programs as Administrator for a private school system with seven campuses in three states. George’s community activities include service as Chairman for the Metropolitan Flint National Day of Prayer Breakfast for the last 15 years. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Genesee Valley Men of Christ and is a member of the Flint Rotary Club.

GovernanceThose who serve as Board Members at Catholic Charities have an inherent unity of purpose and dedication to this organization.  Service to Catholic Charities requires a commitment of time and devotion to the mission of the organization, along with a number of key duties:

Duty of Care Members must act in good faith, in the best interest of the organization.
Duty of Loyalty Members possess a fiduciary duty to the organization and an accountability for the organization’s assets and resources.
Duty of Obedience to Purpose Members must concentrate on our charitable mission, goals and vision as a Catholic organization in service to the people of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties.
